Monty & Glesni Return 2016

Monty & Glesni Return 2016

Both Arrive Within 2 1/2 Hours of Each Other!

It's been one hectic day at DOP.  Both Glesni and Monty arrived this afternoon, within 2½ hours of each other!

Here's a rundown of the main events in time order:

Overnight - Blue 24 still around as she has been for most of the time since she arrived at the Dyfi on 25th March

10:15 - Dai pops in for an hour and mates with Blue 24 nine times.

13:07 - Monty returns home, Blue 24 not around.

Janine zooms in on the new male arrival for ID - no question who it is..

13: 20 Monty disappears, no ospreys around.

14:34 Blue 24 returns with a sea trout and starts to eat it on the camera pole.

14:50 Monty reappears and immediately mates with Blue 24 while she's eating her trout!

15:34 All quiet, Monty on the nest, Blue 24 still eating. But then...

15:40 Both Glesni and Blue 24 start fighting and disappear; they are seen circling in the distance.

17:00 Glesni is back and seems to have won her battle with Blue 24 and regained her nest.

17:10 Blue 24 sits by the electricity pole 400m from the nest, alone.

So we're all over the moon that both our ospreys are back, with both returning on the same afternoon an extra bonus! But there's a tinge of sadness too.

Blue 24 has defended this nest valiantly for over a week since she returned on 25th March. She's let Dai Dot mate with her on several occasions despite him (almost certainly now) having another nest and female 12 miles away. She's fought off Blue 5F on several occasions and when she saw Monty return she let him mate with her too. She wasn't to know that Glesni was only a couple of hours away.

We will of course keep you updated on Blue 24, Dai, Monty, and Glesni. New website launching this week also, it's a cracker...
