A very brief end-of-week update

I'm afraid that Glesni is now not coming back. We'll pull together a fitting tribute for her and publish it next weekend.

Blue 3J

This morning we started a public vote asking the simple question - should we give Blue 3J a name or simply call her Blue 3J?

For those of you not on Facebook, please feel free to let us know your thoughts and, if you would like a name for Monty's new partner, any suggestions you may have, Welsh or English names.

If 3J is to be named, we won't name her after a specific person nor after rivers and lakes - that's just for the Dyfi chicks.

Live Streaming

We've had big issues with our Primary Server again today. Over the coming week we will change to a completely new system which will have a Live Chat facility as well as the ability to rewind back up to four hours back in time.

Server drop-outs

There may be some disruption while we migrate over to the new system, but I promise you it will be worth it. People will be able to decide on the resolution they view the Dyfi ospreys based on how fast their connection is all the way from 360p to 1080p High Definition. In time, we'll stream at 4K resolutions.

North Wales

Things are looking promising in north Wales. A pair of ospreys have been displaying and mating a nest platform; the male is a 2014 Scottish bird ringed Blue HR7 from Lake of Menteith near Stirling.

I don't know the identity of the female, but there's a chance that she is Blue 24. We'll keep you updated.

Clarach

Clarach laid her first egg of the season yesterday, but unfortunately while she was busy chasing corvids away from her nest, a raven sneaked in and grabbed her egg.

It's early in the season and there's no reason, time-wise anyway, why she won't still lay a clutch of three. Best wishes to the McClarachs.

Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita

On Friday evening we were treated to the most amazing thing I've seen in the 360 Observatory. The Welsh and Senegalese harpists, Catrin and Seckou, played their hearts out to a packed 50-strong audience as they launched their new album that evening, "SOAR". An album based on ospreys and migration between Africa and Wales, it's on sale currently in the DOP shop and online from September.

The opening piece, Clarach, brought the house down and it as the temperatures outside got increasingly colder, the reverse happened in the Observatory, listening to these incredible musicians.

As we got to the encore, Monty suddenly shot off the nest and flew directly towards us, passing just a few meters away. Catrin and Seckou thought we'd planned it! Everybody stood up and clapped - it was one of those surreal moments in one's life where you suddenly ask yourself - did that really happen?

I took a short video of "Clarach" on Friday night, I'll ask the guys if they're happy for us to share it with you in a few days, you'll love it.

We'd like to thank Catrin, Seckou and all the team from Theatr Mwldan who donated their services for free for this Benefit concert - over £2,000 was raised for DOP. Diolch o galon i chi gyd.
